Back story

I left the leafy countryside of Canterbury in search of some grit and industry - an environment supposedly more condusive to studying for a degree in Industrial Design.  Leicester Polytechnic beckoned and then packed me off to Stuttgart for the second year for study and work experience.

Theme park design turned out to be my first job following graduation, providing bags of experience in designing, making and installing a broad range of one-off projects from museum interactives through retail environments and ride experiences. I became proficient in a variety of design packages, based on my daily use of AutoCad for 3D design and visualisation. As the Internet became more important as a business tool I produced a range of printed and "new media" and then a company website.

Then followed a couple of years as contractor to local design and marketing agencies producing CD-ROMs, flash presentations and websites. After building a Content Management System using ColdFusion for a County Police Force I formed Adley Design Ltd to provide e-commerce, CMS, design and hosting for a growing client list.

What I'm Not

Although I can read, understand and hack on a range of programming languages I am NOT a programmer. I've copied and pasted my way through ColdFusion, ASP, .NET, XSLT, ActionScript, Python but I'm most familiar nowadays with PHP.

Although I've administered and tinkered with all of Microsoft's Operating Sytems up to SBS 2003, including Exchange and IIS, I took the personal decision to discontinue active development with Microsoft products. This has led to a fair amount of *nix experience, both server and desktop so I have a high familiarity with the command line. This does NOT make me a System Administrator for either OS but leaves me as a happily technical competent Mac owner!

Summary

I'm a builder of good looking, useable websites and, because I'm a designer, they work for the end user and operator alike.
